学术讲座｜国际著名策展人Jean-Louis Cohen 北外滩开讲！
2023年7月19日，2138cn太阳集团古天乐联手上海北外滩（集团）有限公司和上海当代艺术博物馆，邀请全球知名建筑史学家Jean-Louis Cohen教授带来题为“The Art of Architectural Exhibitions: Paris, New York, Shanghai”的学术讲座。Cohen教授本人在法国文化部的支持下，主持创建了位于巴黎夏乐宫的法兰西建筑遗产博物馆，策展过包括威尼建筑斯双年展法国馆等全球23个主要的艺术展览。本次讲座作为即将在上海当代艺术博物馆开展的“摩登巴黎1914-1945”预展发布，也将分享他在策展过程中的轶闻趣事。
The School of Design of Shanghai Jiao Tong University together with the North Bund Group and Power Station of Art, will invite Professor Jean-Louis Cohen, a world-renowned architectural historian to share the topic of “The Art of Architectural Exhibitions: Paris, New York, Shanghai” on July 19, 2023. Between 1997 to 2003 he has created, on behalf of the French Minister of Culture, the Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine, a museum, research and exhibition center, which opened in 2007 in the Paris Palais de Chaillot and he has also curated 23 major art exhibitions around the world including the French pavilion at the 14th Architecture Biennial in Venice. As a preview of the “Modern Paris 1914-1945” exhibition at Power Station of Art, this lecture will also include his sharing of anecdotes during these curatorial process.
由Jean-Louis Cohen教授策展，DS+R工作室担任展陈设计的“摩登巴黎1914-1945”主题展将于2023年7月22日-2023年10月20日在上海当代艺术博物馆展出，将从丰富交织的视角回溯现代性在巴黎上世纪黄金年代的萌生与蓬勃，通过巴黎在1914-1945年之间的都市样本，为“东方巴黎”之称的上海的现代研究提供多维度的历史参照系。
Curated by Professor Cohen and exhibition design undertaken by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, “Modern Paris 1914-1945” will be exhibited at the Power Station of Art from July 22, 2023 to October 20, 2023. The exhibition will look back at the emergence and prosperity of modernity in the golden age of Paris in the last century from a rich and intertwined perspective, and provide a multi-dimensional frame of reference for the modernity of Shanghai, known as the “Oriental Paris”, through the urban samples of Paris between 1914 and 1945.
Jean-Louis Cohen，杰出的建筑师和建筑历史学家。研究兴趣集中于1900年至今欧洲、俄罗斯、北美和北非的建筑和城市发展。以多种语言出版著作逾40部，包括《勒·柯布西耶和苏联之谜》(1992)，《密斯凡德罗》(1994, 2007, 2018)，《1889年后的建筑未来》(2012)等。其中，《制式建筑：二战建筑和设计》(2011)获法国建筑学会的图书最高奖、艺术图书大奖和美国建筑史学家学会的年度著作奖。他是国际建筑竞赛评委席上的常客，同时是享有国际声誉的策展人。他在法国蓬皮杜艺术中心，加拿大建筑中心，纽约现代艺术博物馆策划了一系列核心展览。自1994年以来，任纽约大学美术研究所Sheldon H Solow讲席教授。
Jean-Louis Cohen is the Sheldon H. Solow Professor in the History of Architecture, at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. He is a French architect and architectural historian specializing in modern architecture and city planning. His research has focused on architecture and urban planning in twentieth-century France, Germany, Italy, Russia and the United States; patterns of internationalization and regional cultures; the modernization of urban form in Paris; and city planning in colonial Algeria and Morocco. He has curated numerous exhibitions for the Pompidou Centre, the Pavillon de l’Arsenal, the Canadian Centre for Architecture, the French Institute of Architecture, the Museum of Modern Art and more. Research pursued on the field, at the contact of buildings, cities, and protagonists, as well as in the archives, has also led him to meet programs of historic preservation at the scale of the edifice or of entire cities, and to work as a consultant for NGOs engaged on this front, as well as with UNESCO, in Russia, France, and Morocco.
讲座地点位于北外滩东长治路505号雷士德工学院旧址，是上海近代教育史上短暂而璀璨的一笔，也是地产大亨雷士德先生留给上海的珍贵礼物。随着研究工作的展开和保护修缮工程的完成，记忆重新浮出水面，沉睡的建筑也再次焕发了青春。2023年起，结合北外滩功能提升，雷士德工学院旧址修缮工程项目交付使用，现作为北外滩中国式现代化重要展示窗口，聚焦打造全球优秀设计作品及内容，助力上海建设世界一流设计之都。
The venue of the lecture, the former site of the Lester School and Henry Lester Institute of Technical Education, No. 505 East Changzhi Road, North Bund, itself represents a brief but radiant episode in the history of modern higher education in Shanghai. It is also the precious gift to Shanghai from this real estate tycoon Henry Lester. As research work unfolds and conservation restoration works reach completion, memories surface and a dormant building can regain its youth. Starting in 2023, combined with functional improvements to the North Bund, the site has focused on fostering a high ground for world-class works of design, helping Shanghai build a world class City of Design, and promoting the North Bund’s radiant performance on the global competitive stage through its position as a vital window for the exhibition of Chinese-style modernization.
